Jesus Henry Christ

Jesus Henry Christ (Dennis Lee, 2012)

A cute film about a child prodigy who goes in search of his father.

It kind of reminded me of a Wes Anderson film (note to self: see Moonrise Kingdom) but it wasn't. It's a gentle film where nothing much happens but you can forgive that for its sweet, earnest nature. Both Michael Sheen and Toni Collette are well established actors to be admired but its the young performers who steal the show, especially Samantha Weinstein. Its similar to other similarly 'quirky' films in that it doesn't feel that anything is resolved at the end. In particular Sheen's character never has to answer for his treatment of his daughter but nevertheless the ending does hold the notion of hope, that things get better for these people, courtesy of a (strange) flash forward just before the final scene.

Definitely worth a watch.
